1st Goal Completed!!!

After several years of going to school and working (during some of that time) and having a family, I finally finished in December of 2010. My graduation day was one of the biggest days of my life. I worked hard to get my degree. Without the support and love of my family and friens I don't think I would have ever gotten through it. I was blessed durring this time by meeting serval new life time friends that I have something in common with: the importance of education of our children. Today I was able to cross off the 1st goal on my list of 75 goals in 930 days. After receiving my degree in Elementary Education I recieved my Idaho Teaching Certificate in Standard Elementary K/8 (all subjects). It is amazing how 2 little pieces of paper can mean so much to someone!!! I am so excited to start my teaching career.. Now its time to start looking for a job and turning in those application.

Wanna feel smart?!?

I received these in an email the other day. I got a good laugh at them, so I thought I would share them with you. After reading some of them you have to wonder how some people got to where they are today!

1) "Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life,"
-- Brooke Shields, during an interview to become spokesperson for federal anti-smoking campaign

2) "I've never had major knee surgery on any other part of my body,"
--Winston Bennett, University of Kentucky basketball forward.

3) "That lowdown scoundrel deserves to be kicked to death by a jackass, and I'm just the one to do it,"
--A congressional candidate in Texas .

4) "Half this game is ninety percent mental."
--Philadelphia Phillies manager, Dan ny Ozark

5) "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment.. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.."
--Al Gore, Vice President

6) "We don't necessarily discriminate. We simply exclude certain types of people."
-- Colonel Gerald Wellman, ROTC Instructor.

1st Week!!!

Well I made it through the first week, and I still LOVE it. This week I start working with 1st and 3rd graders doing progress monitoring. Now I am trying to come up with new ways to drill letter names and sounds with students. I am trying to come up with fun games and things to do with them. I have some ideas to do, I am just needing to figure out how to skim them down to fit into a 15 min time slot. It has been great coming up with ideas to do and seeing their faces light at learning new things.

First Day!!!

I love teaching!!!! My 1st day was great, (I was there Friday but I didn't work with any students, so I am not counting that) working with kids is wonderful. I love that they are so eager to learn and try new things. You are probably wondering what my new job actually is, right?
After subbing a couple of days at a school, I got a call from the principal saying the school was looking for someone to do Kindergarten Intervention and she wanted to meet with me for an interview if I was interested. Well I couldn't pass up the opportunity. While I loved subbing, and am still able to do that on Fridays, I really like working with the same kiddos everyday and making my own lesson plans instead of having to teach what someone else wants me to. While this is only a temporary position I think it will be beneficial to me and the students.
So long story short, after meeting with the principal for about 20 mins, I left the school with the job offer. So now I work with Kindergartners, teaching letter names and sounds, and do progress monitoring for Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grades. After working with the students today I am excited to continue working with them and I can not wait to have a classroom of my own eventually. Praying that will happen this next school year. More to come as the year continues!!!!

Hello!!!

Several of my friends have been doing blogs to journal about what is happening in their lives. I thought "What a wonderful thing to do as I start my teaching career." This will be a great way to keep my friends and family current on what is happening with me and my beautiful daughter as we go through school and teaching, and the many other fun things we do together. So here goes:
I just graduated in December from Boise State University with my Elementary Education degree. I am so excited to start my career as a teacher. Since graduating I have been subbing in the district for various grades and teachers. I have to admit while I was scared to death to do my student teaching in Kindergarten, it is now my absolute favorite grade to teach. I did my student teaching in the 6th grade and Kindergarten. After subbing at one of the schools here I was offered a position (I will get into that in a future blog after the job starts). After having several varieties of jobs since I graduated High School, I feel I have definitely chosen the right career for me, it may have taken a while to get here, but I am so glad I am finally here.
So now about my family. I have a beautiful daughter. She says some of the funniest things. I will post some of her antics as we go. I have been so blessed to have her in my life. I cant imagine not having her around. She makes me laugh so much, it is hard not to smile when she is around. I will also keep post on her progress in school. She is currently a 1st grader and would rather be at school learning than anywhere else, which is unusual. She is also in gymnastics. She has been doing gymnastics for about 4 years. I am amazed at what their little bodies can do. I love watching her practice and get better at this.
A little more about me now. I have been married for 8 1/2 years. We live in the Treasure Valley area. It has been a wonderful experience. We have been very blessed with our lives, and the things we have been able to do as a family. We hope to expand out little family eventually, after I get settled into my new career.
Well that is a little about me and what we have been up to. I look forward to keeping journals about what we have been up and the new things that are happening in our lives.
